One of the first few books I read was “The 360 degree Leader” by John C. Maxwell.

The book emphasized on how best to lead upward, downward and side ways.

Applying this principle to interpersonal relationships, everyone has

– Persons that are above them(upward)

– Persons who are below them(downward) and

– Persons who on the same cadre or pedestrian(side ways).

It is important that you always ensure you build relationship “the 360 degree” way (upward, downward, and sideways).

Today, many are focused on just building relationship upward( those above them) because of the immediate benefit, neglecting to build valuation relationships with those downward and those side ways.

Building valuable relationship with those sideways has it’s long time benefit because in years to come those relationship you have invested in today will be those you can call your network(equals net-worth)

More so, there are some things that only people downward(below you) can get done for you, especially when you don’t have the best resources, time, information or energy to get the job done.

Remember

1. Investment is different from saving, sometimes it will take longer than you expected to yield result from those relationship

2. Be quick to discover potential in people and network your way into their life

3. Build genuine relationship and don’t expect anything in return
